EASTERN TOWHEE | SPECIES INDEX | HOME |
| | Conservation Concern: NONE Population Trend: Increasing? The Eastern Towhee is an uncommon to fairly common breeder in the CW Region and fairly common in patchy regions further to the south. Breeding habitat usually includes forest edges or moderate to dense shrublands. Both trends indicate that this species is increasing, but a more generalized analysis of the avg. number of birds record per site shows a notable decrease if an apparent oversampling in 2000-2004 is taken into account. BBS trends show this species declining at a rate of -1.3% annually in the midwest and -1.2% annually in Illinois. |
