FIELD SPARROW | SPECIES INDEX | HOME |

| Conservation Concern: 5PIF, FW Population Trend: Stable? The Field Sparrow is a common statewide breeder. Nesting habitat includes mixed grasslands, open to moderate shrublands, and weedy fields. Although this species is declining considerable in most areas, the populations in the CW Region - mostly on preserved lands - appear to be relatively stable. Decreases in the Midwest may be partially attributed to increased development and intensive farming. Parasitism by Brown-headed Cowbirds is also quite high. |
