Credibility: Very Good

The Northern Cardinal is a common to abundant breeder in the CW Region.  Breeding habitat is varied, but includes forest edges, shrublands, and urban areas with dense shrubs.  The BCN Census trends indicate that this species is relatively stable in the Chicagoland area.
