Conservation Concern: 8

Population Trend: Decreasing
Credibility: Good

The Northern Flicker is a fairly common to common statewide breeder.  Breeding habitat usually consists of cavities in dead snags of trees along forest edges or marshland edges.  BCN Census trends estimate an annual decrease of between 3% and 4%.  This species may compete with European Starlings and other cavity nesters for suitable habitat.  Controlled burns may also bring down dead trees where these birds previously nested.
