WOOD THRUSH | SPECIES INDEX | HOME |
|
| Conservation Concern: 5PIF, WL-Y, FW Population Trend: Substantial Decrease The Wood Thrush is an uncommon, locally fairly common, statewide breeder. Preferred habitat includes woodlands with understory and dense shrublands with canopy. Long-term trends estimated a 4% annual decrease. Short-term trends have a somewhat larger range of error, but estimate a 12% annual decrease. The Wood Thrush has been shown to be one of the (desirable) species most negatively impacted by current restoration practices in the CW Region - especially buckthorn and honeysuckle removal, without sufficient reintroduction of native understory (although it is not believed to be a productive breeder in our region's fragmented forests). |
