EASTERN BLUEBIRD

The Eastern Bluebird is a fairly common breeder in the CW Region and common in areas farther south. Eastern bluebirds usually nest in tree cavities or bluebird boxes in forest edges, savannas, and mowed fields. Harsh winters can have noticeable negative impacts on this species in our area. This species has benefited greatly by the prevalence of bluebird boxes in residential areas and preserves in the Chicago area. Photo: © Eric Secker
