HOUSE WREN

The House Wren is a common statewide breeder. Breeding habitat is varied, but often includes open, mature woodlands or shrublands with trees. This common cavity nester often competes aggresively with chickadees and other birds for nesting locations. BCN Survey trends show a clear, significant annual decrease in the CW Region. Some studies have shown significant declines in this species numbers due to West Nile Virus, but reasons for long-term declines are still unknown and worth further investigation.
