WOOD THRUSH

The Wood Thrush is an uncommon, locally fairly common, statewide breeder. Preferred habitat includes woodlands with understory and dense shrublands with canopy. Trends estimate a significant decrease. The Wood Thrush has been shown to be one of the desirable species most negatively impacted by current restoration practices - especially buckthorn and honeysuckle removal without sufficient reintroduction of native understory. However, it is not believed to be a productive breeder in our region's fragmented forests. Photo: © Eric Secker
