Northern Flicker

The Northern Flicker is a fairly common to common statewide breeder. Breeding habitat usually consists of cavities in dead snags of trees in savannas, along forest edges or marshland edges. BCN Survey trends show a significant moderate decline. This species may compete with European Starlings and other cavity nesters for suitable habitat. Policies for removing dead limbs and trees in municipal woodlands may also have an impact. They are frequently encountered in burned areas, and prefer wooded areas with an open structure.
