Veery

The Veery is an uncommon to rare breeder in the Chicago Wilderness Region. Breeding habitat includes woodlands with dense understory, often near water. This species is rarely encountered on the BCN Survey and is difficult to detect. Veerys are known to be more vulnerable to cowbird predation in small, fragmented woodlands. Excessive deer browsing may also be affecting this species. Photo: © Eric Secker
