Step 1. Joining the Bird Conservation Network Project in eBird

If you don't see the Bird Conservation Network as an option under "Choose Projects" or haven't enrolled yet via eBird, continue reading. Otherwise skip to Step 2 below.

Helpful Tips

  • Any data collected at your site while traveling between point counts can be entered in a separate incidental or traveling checklist. We recommend starting an Incidental checklist BEFORE starting a checklist at your first point (eBird won't let you start a new checklist while tracking your time or distance).
  • When entering your sightings in the checklist, it'll say "Bird Conservation Network" at the bottom of the screen to help you know your data is going in the right place.
  • Click on "Choose Location" at the top BEFORE entering birds so you don't forget to track which point you were at for each checklist.
  • See the BCN Survey Point Counts page for a refresher on the point count protocol requirements and recommendations for conducting your surveys.
  • If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your area coordinator or email us at bcnsurvey@gmail.com.
