Northern Bobwhite

The Northern Bobwhite is a rare breeder in the CW Region, more common to the west and south. According to an Audubon study, it is the fastest declining common bird in the nation. Nesting habitat often includes dense grasslands or mixed shrublands. This species is rarely encountered on the BCN Survey and accurate trends cannot be estimated. Most populations in the CW Region are small, and may contain a large percentage of released birds. A few larger populations have been documented in SW Will County and southern Porter County, IN.
