Belted Kingfisher

The Belted Kingfisher is an uncommon breeder in the Chicago Wilderness Region and slightly more common to the south. Kingfishers typically nest in cavities along riverbanks. BCN trends are inconclusive due to the small sample size. This species can also roam large distances to fish and is often silent near its nest cavity. Photo: © Eric Secker
