Field Sparrow

The Field Sparrow is a common statewide breeder. Nesting habitat includes mixed grasslands, open to moderate shrublands, and weedy fields. While decreasing in the Midwest, possibly due to increased development and removal of shruby fields, populations in the CW Region, mostly on preserved lands, appear to be stable. Our region, the Eastern Tallgrass Prairie, is estimated to hold a large percentage of their population. Photo: © Robert Hambley
