Red-winged Blackbird

The Red-winged Blackbird is an abundant statewide breeder. Breeding habitat is varied and includes cattail marshes, grasslands, and other fields. Trends indicate that this species is stable in the Chicagoland area. This species is fairly well monitored by the BCN Survey, although better coverage and monitoring of wetlands and agricultural areas may yield slightly different trends. Photo: © Eric Secker
