Upland Sandpiper

Formerly a common bird of the tallgrass prairie, in recent years this species has been found mostly only in pastures, and in dwindling numbers. Currently there are a few remaining known pairs in the Chicago Wilderness area, but the bulk of this bird's population is found in the Great Plains States. BCN Survey trends indicate a significant, steep decline of over 10% a year. Photo: © Eric Secker
