Western Meadowlark

The Western Meadowlark is a very rare breeder in most portions of the Chicago Wilderness Region, but uncommon in the far western and southern counties. Breeding habitat includes grasslands and agricultural areas. This species is rarely encountered on the BCN Survey and accurate trends cannot be calculated, but data suggests a steep decline in our area. Photo: © Eric Secker
