INDIGO BUNTING

The Indigo Bunting is a common statewide breeder. Breeding habitat includes a variety of open woodland habitats with little understory and often dense forbs. Trends are not statistically significant but suggest that this species is fairly stable or slightly decreasing in the area. This highly adaptable species is known to nest in non-native weeds like garlic mustard but also shows a strong positive response to savanna restoration. Photo: © Heather Secker
