Cooper's Hawk

The Cooper's Hawk is an uncommon breeder in the CW Region. This species, once common throughout Illinois, was placed on the Illinois endangered species list in the late 1970s, following declines due to the effects of insecticides such as DDT. The species has since rebounded considerably, even now adapting to residential areas, and was delisted in 1999. Photo: © Eric Secker
