European Starling

The European Starling is an abundant statewide breeder. Breeding habitat is quite varied. This non-native species entered the area in the early twentieth century and quickly expanded across the region. This cavity nester often competes with woodpeckers and other species for nesting locations, but also nests in a variety of man-made structures. Urban areas where this species is most abundant are poorly represented by the BCN Survey. Photo: © Dmitry Maslov
