Great Blue Heron

The Great Blue Heron is a locally common statewide breeder. Breeding habitat usually consists of isolated stands of trees (living or dead) on islands or in undisturbed open areas near water. This species has increased noticeably during the past twenty years, but marshland species and heron rookeries are poorly monitored by the BCN Survey. Photo: © Eric Secker
