Summer Tanager

The Summer Tanager is a very rare breeder in the Chicago Wilderness Region, fairly common in southern portions of the state. Breeding habitat includes riparian forests and open woodlands with some understory. This species is rarely encountered at BCN Survey point counts but has expanded its range into our area enough to suggest a significant moderate increase. Photo: © Eric Secker
